Plan Ahead: Secure Your Flights for Chinese New Year 2025 Now!

With less than six months to go until Chinese New Year 2025, now is the perfect time to book your flights to avoid the inevitable surge in ticket prices. This year, the first day of Chinese New Year falls on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. As this festive period approaches, securing affordable flights becomes increasingly challenging, especially for popular routes from Singapore to destinations such as Penang, Kuala Lumpur, and Ipoh.

Why Book Now?

Avoid Price Hikes: As the demand for flights increases closer to the holiday, so do the prices. Booking early can save you a significant amount of money, allowing you to allocate your budget towards other aspects of your holiday or festive preparations.

Better Availability: Early booking ensures you have a wider selection of flight times and airlines, giving you more flexibility to choose a schedule that best suits your needs.

Peace of Mind: Having your travel arrangements sorted well in advance reduces stress and allows you to focus on enjoying the festive season with your loved ones.

Peak Travel Dates

Most people will aim to travel back to their hometowns on Friday night, January 24, 2025, or Saturday, January 25, 2025, making these dates peak travel times. If you’re planning to join the masses in this great migration, securing your tickets now is crucial.

Maximizing Your Holiday

For those looking to make the most out of the holiday season, here’s a strategic leave plan:

  1. Take Leave on January 27 and 28: By taking just two days off, you can enjoy a six-day holiday from January 24 (Friday) to January 29 (Wednesday), which includes the weekend and the public holiday for Chinese New Year.
  2. Extend Your Break: To maximize your time off, consider taking an additional day of leave on January 31 (Friday). This extra day off will give you a nine-day holiday from January 24 to February 1, allowing ample time for travel, relaxation, and celebration.

Certainly! Here is a table that outlines the holiday and leave calendar for maximizing your holiday during Chinese New Year 2025:

myRENTAS: Revolutionizing Border Clearance Between Malaysia and Singapore

Introduction to myRENTAS

In an era where technology is continually transforming our daily lives, the myRENTAS application stands out as a groundbreaking innovation. Developed specifically for the Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia (JIM), myRENTAS uses QR code technology to streamline the process of verifying travelers at land checkpoints between Malaysia and Singapore. This article delves into the features, benefits, and future plans for myRENTAS, focusing on its current usage, expansion plans, and the significance of its technology in enhancing border security and efficiency.

How myRENTAS Works

myRENTAS leverages advanced QR code technology to create a seamless clearance system for travelers. Here’s a step-by-step look at how the system operates:

  1. QR Code Generation: Travelers generate a unique QR code via the myRENTAS app. This code contains all necessary information for border clearance.
  2. Verification at Checkpoints: Upon arriving at the checkpoint, travelers present their QR code to be scanned by the immigration officers.
  3. Real-time Data Processing: The scanned information is processed in real-time, allowing for quick verification and clearance.
  4. Cross-border Passage: Once verified, travelers can proceed with their journey.

Current Availability and Usage

As of now, myRENTAS is exclusively available to Malaysian citizens. The application is operational at the CIQ Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) in Johor, one of the busiest land checkpoints between Malaysia and Singapore. Despite its limited initial rollout, the system is designed to handle a high volume of travelers, ensuring a smooth and efficient border crossing experience.

Key Points:

  • Location: CIQ Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI), Johor.
  • User Base: Currently limited to Malaysians.

Future Expansion Plans

While myRENTAS is currently restricted to Malaysian travelers, there are plans to extend its usage to non-Malaysian travelers in the near future. This expansion will be pivotal in enhancing the convenience for all travelers crossing the Malaysia-Singapore border.

Upcoming Features:

  • Inclusion of Non-Malaysian Travelers: A phased rollout to include international travelers.
  • Wider Checkpoint Integration: Expansion to other checkpoints such as Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB).

Importance of Carrying a Passport

Despite the technological advancements brought by myRENTAS, travelers are still required to carry their passports. The passport remains an essential travel document necessary for international travel and cross-border verification.

Why Passports Are Still Required:

  • Legal Documentation: Passports serve as the primary legal document for international travel.
  • Supplementary Verification: Acts as a backup in case of technical issues with the myRENTAS system.

The Future of Border Clearance

The introduction of myRENTAS is a significant step towards modernizing border clearance procedures. By incorporating QR code technology, the system not only speeds up the verification process but also enhances security and reduces the likelihood of errors. As myRENTAS expands its user base and operational scope, it promises to set a new standard for border management systems globally.

Conclusion

myRENTAS represents a leap forward in border clearance technology, simplifying the process for Malaysian travelers and soon, international travelers. With its current application at CIQ Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and future plans for expansion, myRENTAS is poised to revolutionize the way we think about border security and efficiency. Stay tuned for more updates as myRENTAS continues to evolve and expand its reach.

MYTRIP QR Code System for Immigration Clearance at CIQ BSI and KSAB

Beginning June 1, Malaysians will be able to use QR codes instead of passports for Immigration clearance at the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) complexes in Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB).

“The implementation of this system will significantly reduce waiting times for bus commuters at BSI during peak hours, cutting it from 120 minutes to just 15 minutes – an impressive 83 percent reduction,” said Fadillah, speaking to reporters after chairing the Special Committee Meeting to Address Congestion at the Johor Causeway.

MyTRIP is currently available to Malaysians only. Expansion of usage to permanent residents and non-Malaysians will be announced later.

MyTRIP builds on the MySejahtera platform, which has a large user base and has previously collaborated with the Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia (JIM) for cross-border travel during COVID-19.

Utilizing this existing infrastructure is cost-effective and allows for quick market deployment due to reduced and efficient development timelines.

To use MyTRIP QR on a new device, first unlink your passport from the old device. Then, log into your MySejahtera account on the new phone, re-link your passport, and continue using your MyTRIP QR code.

Leveraging its existing infrastructure results in cost efficiency and enables rapid deployment to market, thanks to shortened and efficient development timelines.

Singapore car travel to Malaysia required Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) from Oct 1, 2024

The Transport Minister has announced that the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) system, which was initially introduced in 2019, will now be fully enforced at both the Johor Causeway and the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link.

According to the Minister, the VEP tag will cost foreign vehicle owners only RM10 per tag and will be valid for a period of five years. This initiative aims to streamline cross-border vehicle management and improve traffic flow between the two nations.

Foreign vehicle owners from Singapore have the option to either bring their vehicles to Malaysia for RFID tag installation or request to have the tags delivered to them for self-installation. This flexibility ensures that vehicle owners can choose the most convenient method to comply with the new regulations.

The Minister also emphasized the importance of timely compliance, encouraging all foreign vehicle owners to register, install, and activate their VEP RFID tags within the next four months, before the October deadline.

Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) is a permit issued by the Road Transport Department (under Section 66H of the Road Transport Act 1987) that allows the entry of foreign vehicles into Malaysia. Owners or representatives duly appointed by the owners of ALL foreign registered vehicles entering Peninsular Malaysia are required to register online for VEP through this portal. VEP registered vehicles will be issued non-transferrable RFID tags that uniquely identify each vehicle.

Road charge (RC) is a fee imposed on all foreign registered private vehicles (excluding motorcycles) when entering Malaysia. The fee of RM20.00 will be charged each time these vehicles enter the country.
